The last 6 months have been hugely busy for me! And now you know why. “I Wanna Be A Celebrity” premiered on Metaverse Television last night at 10pm EST 7pm Pacific! It was so amazing to sit and watch this things all together in one piece with those who participated - Last night was an awesome opportunity to reconnect with some of them I hadn’t seen in awhile. This was something new to all of us - while i had
been involved in some context with Reality Shows in Second Life in the past (Big Brother) they just seemed poorly executed and missing a key component - that being the value of people character, the insight into their Second Lives. There was nothing intimate about things like Big Brother, we were monkey on Parade accruing votes to stay in the game… I wanted to do something both unique and contributory to Second Life, and I think, along with an incredible team and cast, we’ve made an insurmountable achievement.

Okay, many of you have been asking about DiVAS, whats going on with it, where are the new episodes ect, and I appreciate all the notes, IM’s and emails! Now we’re going to clear the air.

DiVAS will conclude it’s run this summer in a 45 minute Series Finale. We’ve talked about this for some time, discussing possibilities and the implications, but the time is right for us to move on from it and onto other projects. Many of you had suspected the show was done since I (Phaylen) have been working on so many other projects outside the DiVAS universe over the last 6 months, and news has become sporadic and altogether infrequent.

The finale episode will pick up from the very moment the season finale left off. Filming of this episode was completed in the beginning of December of last year, and it took a good long while to decide whether we wanted to continue onward. However, we all wanted to give it a fitting farewell and we (Kit, Evie, Stampshady and myself) worked diligently to ensure that it ended on the perfect note!

BUT!

There’s more to tell you - I can’t just yet until things are set in stone, so bear with me! Will report more soon with approximate dates and our in-world viewing parties!

If you’re not doing anything this Saturday, come on over to the International Machinima festival in Second Life which is simulcast LIVE to PLANETART in Amsterdam, Netherlands! Phaylen has been asked to present films produced inside Second Life (SL), World of Warcraft (WoW), Half Life, Crysis, Halo, Grand Theft Auto (GTA), Moviestorm, The Sims, OpenGrid, Playstation Home and more by some of Machinima’s most formidable talents from 6-7pm SLT (PST) on Saturday February 28th. The Machinima International Film Festival will be screening over 40 films by machinimists from every platform in an event that crosses over from the virtual worlds to real life at PLANETART in Amsterdam! Real Life viewers, as well as virtual audiences from around the globe can watch films made by filmmakers who use the virtual medium to tell stories.

We are deeply appreciative to Chantal Harvey who asked us to participate, capping off what had been an already wonderful year for the DiVAS who showcased at the Museum of Natural History in Florence Italy this past winter in real life, and now onto the Netherlands. You’ll be able to catch the DiVAS Season Finale in it’s full glory beginning February 28th!

Metaverse Broadcasting Channel (MBC), pioneers of the virtual media movement have teamed with Phaylen Fairchild, creator of Second Life’s first sitcom, DiVAS to create a brand new reality series to be filmed in the virtual world of Second Life™.

The 6 part series takes Six contestants from around the globe and pits them against one another in various skill-based challenges. Each week, the contestants will meet with a Mentor, an expert in a specific field where they will learn various skills which they will later be judged upon. This is the first Virtual Reality series not based upon public votes, but solely on skill development and enthusiasm for learning. At the end of each round, the winner will receive an exclusive award and one contestant will be eliminated from the competition. Skills that will be put to the test encompass most of those specific to Second Life including building, photography, performance, avatar customization, social engagement and collaboration. Along the way, they will be aided by some of Second Life’s most accomplished professionals intent on guiding them down the path to becoming a Virtual Superstar.

At the end of the 6 week competition, the winner will receive a development deal with MBC, an opportunity to star in their own show where their talent will be nurtured and their work celebrated. “There are so many vastly and diversely talented people out there,” Fairchild said,” … And this is an opportunity to bridge the gap between the magnificent creatives out there, and the people with the ability to give them the exposure, recognition and assistance they deserve.” Robustus Hax, Metaverse CEO added, “There are so many amazing people out there operating beneath the radar due to the sheer size of our world  - this effort is not us saying that some people deserve a chance to be seen and heard more so than others, this is simply a fun format in which to acknowledge the efforts and foster the Second Life skills of our resident peers in a lighthearted, immersive and entertaining medium. Hopefully we manage to enrich the Second Life experience of everyone involved while we’re at it. There are no real losers here.”

I WANNA BE A CELEBRITY begins airing in the spring. Metaverse Broadcasting Channel has been a pioneer of New Media in Second Life since 2007, and have created several highly rated series in the Second Life platform, including MBC News, Out & About with Dousa Dragonash and other shows currently in production. MBC was the official carrier of The Second Life political debate and live streaming of the Second Life Fifth Birthday opening speeches for Linden Lab.

Phaylen Fairchild is the creator of DiVAS, Second Life’s first sitcom which began in 2007 and is currently in it’s second season. She has also organized some of Second Life’s primary annual events such as Day Of Remembrance, Second Life’s Fifth Birthday festivities and the in-world SLCC broadcasts. She is currently directing two more series within the platform of Second Life.

So, the other evening, I had the great honor of being invited to a taping of The Late Show with my good friend Paisley Beebe - who is just magnifico, and you should watch her show! I was really intrigued because one of her guests was the creator of the R2D2 Robot from the film Star Wars. Okay, I’ll be honest, darling. I’m a huge film buff, but I think I’ve halfways caught one Star Wars film. I am however, a huge fan of George Lucas and actually got to party with him when alpha testing SWG years ago. The man is just a genius.

So, I showed up at Paisleys show to find the audience filled with Stormtroopers and little Ewoks. It was such an amazing site to see, and they were all so gracious. I asked if they would allow me the opportunity to take a photo with them, and they kindly obliged me. They took me to their *AMAZING* sim called Bakara, Grand Army of The Republic where we stood in a spaceship and took photos. Lo and Behold the lovely Paisley appears moments later and gets in the action! She was, however, dressed a bit more appropriately than I, as (…hang on, googling…) Amidala. It was tremendous fun, Paisley and I had a ball, and the Stromtroopers were simply awesome! Thank you guys for the photo!

The Holidays are upon us, and so is a new year! Hard to believe there is so much time behind us now and we’re still going strong. It seems fitting that we’re filming the Second season of the show when, at this time last year, our pilot episode was being released - we never imagined we’d still be doing this, but we are thrilled we are! We’re on our Holiday break now, tonight was our last scheduled shoot until the New Year, so the next time we see each other it will be 2009! In the meantime, we’d like to share with you a warm Holiday Greeting and take this opportunity to express our gratitude to you out there in www-land who watch, write and participate in the making of DiVAS. Without you, we wouldn’t be here today, and we are forever grateful to remain on your computer screens!

Here’s to hoping that Santa brings you everything you want this year! See you soon!
