The Spamification of Virtual Worlds

The Spamification of Virtual Worlds

How long did we really think we'd be safe? People...

You’re in for a HUGE surprise…

The last few days I have been working on something so absolutely hysterical that I’m sure I’ll have abs of steel by the end of filming. I am the worst person ever to keep a secret, I find it nearly impossibe, so I tend to work really, really fast so that it isn’t a secret anymore. It’s been awhile since I dipped my painted toenail into the pond of fiction since I’ve been filming Celebrity for 7 weeks now, but this is something that absolutely, positively, I could not resist doing. You’ll either hate me afterward, or you’ll love me for doing it, but in any case, it was a creative tick that came at 6am and I couldn’t ignore it. The story write itself.

It’ll be right here this weekend in full glory. I’ll be in hiding for awhile.

xoxo

The Hour Is Coming

ZERO HOUR…Reads the tag on the just released ZERO HOUR teaser poster that went out to members of the press last week in animated form – the poster in-world is actually on fire. Absolutely surreal really, I seem to have gone from being very apprehensive about voice chatting to doing it non-stop, and I’m to the point now where communication in text is awkward. I’ve become such a terrible typist. If my skills with the keyboard were poor prior to this, now they’re most certainly frightening. Voice has gone from convenience to necessity lest people presume I’m retarded.

Zero Hour is currently in production and is not one, not two or three, but a four part mini-series that follows 4 people whose lives intersect on the day the world ends.

Gabbing With Sasy Scarborough & Whimsy Winx

Today I talk with two exceptionally talented, hard working women in the Second Life Fashion industry. Sasy Scarborough and Whimsy Winx are the voice of the Fashion world, their posts are monitored by hundreds upon hundreds of shoppers who use these women as their guides to the best places on the grid for decorating their avatar – and that’s a full time job!

They’ve taken time out of their chaotic schedules to sit down with me for a chat about the state of the fashion industry, offer advice to up and coming designers,  explain just how they ended up becoming the guru bloggers that designers rely on to get the word out!

You can find Whimsy here: http://scarboroughflairbysasyscarborough.wordpress.com/

And Whimsy Winx’s Virtually Dressed here: http://virtuallydressed.wordpress.com/

Enjoy!

Gabbing With Robustus Hax and Trinity Serpentine

Today I caught up with two incredible individuals from Second Life, Trinity Serpentine, a woman who was integral in spearheading the live radio movement in the platform while the grid was still in it’s infancy. The success of the large community of DJ’s have her to thank much in part for molding the industry into what it is today. She’s also the owner of the longest running radio station on the grid, Radio radio, along with her partner, Nala Galatea. For the last five years the two have hosted The Trinala Show, a fun filled party on the airwaves every Saturday on Radio Radio from 8pm to 10pm SLT. She’s currently the host of MBC’s upcoming reality series “I Wanna Be A Celebrity” – which incidentally I produce along with my second guest, Robustus Hax.

Robustus Hax is the owners of Metaverse Television, one of only two media entities in Second Life providing regular, original programming to the grid at large. He’s also the director of the upcoming mini-series Zero Hour. The multi talented Mister Hax is typically a quiet one, but no worries, we brought out the talker in him.

Listen in as I talk shop with these two media vets and they talk about their adventures in Second Life, the big corporate blow out, and what they have planned for their respective futures.

Gabbing with Paisley Beebe

If you don’t already know Paisley Beebe, you should! This woman is one of the pioneers of Virtually filmed media, recently celebrating her 80th (yes you read that right) episode of her fantastic talk show Tonight Live With Paisley Beebe which for some reason I keep calling “Late Night” or some variation thereof – perhaps because here in America we have Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Later with Conan O’Brien and The Late Show with David Letterman… and to me, her program in among those ranks in the virtual world!

Paisley is the first in her field to accomplish such phenomenal success in her format, and if not the first, she has certainly earned a reputation for being the best. She’s multi-talented, incredibly smart and has a wicked wit – but above all else, she is a savvy businesswoman who has been my goto on more than one occasion. On this episode, she lets me turn the tide and as Queen of SL talk sits on the other side of the sofa and answers some questions about her journey from the begining of her virtual existence, how she came discover Second Life, and what the future holds for the indomitable Miss Paisley Beebe.

Catch her show on SLCN.tv today!

WOW! I’m Blogging!

This is either going to be great or disastrous! I haven’t decided yet. It’s an odd sensation having my own voice now – for once I’m not writing on behalf of DiVAS or Survivor or my designs. It’s me in my rawest form, truly the first time I’ve expressed myself outside a character I play or a job I have and thats a little refreshing!

I’m new at this, so I’ll have to ease myself in one foot at a time. I have plenty to say, and I suppose this is the place to indulge myself. I’m not a ranter but I most certainly can be! I guess my goal for this site is to have it develop organically over time. I’ll talk about projects in production, machinima, second life and my adventure through the metaverse. Maybe people will read, maybe they won’t, but for ages I’d wanted a place that was solely mine where I could be myself without responsibilities to an entity beyond myself.

I love contributing to the DiVAS blog, but really, that’s a character – and that encompasses a performance as that character when in context. While it’s certainly safe to say that there are parts of me that are quintessentially that Phaylen character that many people have come to know, many people seem so shocked that it’s not me on a 24/7 basis. I don’t wear a beehive, I’m only occasionally as daft as that woman whose skin I’ve inhabited for a year and a half, and thank heavens I have better fashion sense. It’s always a little disconcerting when I meet someone who has seen the show and they appear to be visibly disturbed by the fact that I’m not flouncing around in wig, doused in spandex with an extra long cigarette dangling from my lips. I even had one woman ask me ever so politely if i could put on the beehive for her and do the walk.

It’s 3:30am and I’m incredibly excited about this new venture – the launch of the production company and the endless amounts of babbling that will occur right here on this page. Despite the tingling bots of anticipation at my fingertips as I ponder the countless discussions that are sure to ensue here, my eyelids are falling fast and the design of this site is nearly finished – just a couple of layout issues we’re working on and then we can consider it another project “in the can.” And with that, I’m taking myself off to bed.
